My mantra for this week is to “honor your body and honor your soul.”
As the weather starts to transition from 90 degree summer quickly over to this 40 degrees mostly-winter-kind-of-fall, and as the nights start to get darker earlier with Daylight Savings coming up in a few weeks, it is so important to take the time to listen to your body. It takes time for your body to get used to these changes, and that’s okay. Especially this year, where we haven’t gotten a proper Fall (yet) but instead went straight to 40 degrees, so many people have gotten sick. Everyone seems to at least have the sniffles.
If your body is feeling less than 100% it’s okay to eat soup for dinner, drink some tea, and go to bed at 7:30 pm. It’s okay to sleep in and skip your morning workout class. It’s okay to spend Friday night snuggled up in blankets and puppies and order in Thai food delivery for dinner. It’s better to give your body the rest that it needs now in order to recover back to 100% faster.
It’s okay to skip a workout. It’s okay to skip yoga. It’s okay to not meditate today. Honestly, meditating with a pounding headache, a stuffed up nose and a cough doesn’t sound zen at all.
Listen to your body, give yourself the rest that you need, and soon you’ll be back to your normal routine in no time! By listening to your body, you are honoring your soul.
While on your yoga mat (given that your body is feeling great!), this is also a great mantra to practice. Listen to your body — if you need to take child’s pose, feel free to take it at anytime during your practice. If you need to modify a pose, or if you’re feeling ready to challenge yourself by taking a pose deeper, definitely do that too. It is your practice and it is your body. Do what you need to do for your practice today.
Honor your body; honor your soul. Namaste <3
