In 2017 I quit the job that was making me miserable, and then I went through a yoga teacher training program. That program was life changing and really helped me get in tuned with my emotions, spirituality and mental wellness. I went from being at my worst to being at my best.
In 2018 I started teaching yoga at a non profit and at apartment complexes, but I also started to lose touch with that emotional, spiritual, mental awareness that I had developed just a year earlier. We got a puppy, my new job got much busier, traffic got heavier, and I stopped making my own yoga practice a priority. I got engaged in July and that part of my life was, and still is, so so full. Everything with Timmer is and has been so perfect. But the other aspects of my life were lacking. It has taken me until today, sitting in the sauna, to come to terms with the fact that my mental wellness hasn’t been a priority but it is so important and it absolutely has to be a priority. I’ve been relying on other people and blaming outside factors instead of taking responsibility for my own happiness.
In 2019, I have so many goals. One of my goals is to be more intentional with my friendships. Choose the ones that choose you back. Make the time to hang out with those close by and take the time to call the ones that are far away. Be patient, and love them unconditionally.
Another goal is to find the positivity and the joy in every day. I used to be so good at this – always smiling and always the positive one. Even when work is tough and traffic is taking over an hour to get home – this is temporary. Life is still so good. At the end of the day I am coming home to the sweetest man and to the two cuddliest pups.
Patience. I am so excited and more ready than ever for our next chapter. It is so hard not to get anxious or jealous seeing other people moving on to new stages in their lives, while knowing ours is right around the corner…and yet not knowing what that is. Once Timmer graduates from residency and enters into the Air Force, who knows where we’ll be – but we are so ready for it.
I know that the Universe has a plan for us, and I know that as long as I can stay positive, continue to choose happiness, and be intentional in my thoughts and actions, it will all work out perfectly.
Namaste – and may your New Year be filled with an abundance of blessings.
Xo,
Laura
