I love food – food makes my world go round – so I was so excited to eat all of the Moroccan food I could stomach on our trip to Marrakech. Tagine, Moroccan salads, couscous, all things harissa sauce, I was ready to try it all. Where to Eat in Marrakech
Le Comptoir Darna
For a fun, well decorated, belly dancing good time, check out Le Comptoir Darna for dinner. We went here on our first night and it was the perfect way to get us in the Moroccan spirit. We walked there from the Medina, but took a quick cab back afterwards. The briouates are a delicious appetizer and the Le fameux mechoui (lamb shoulder) is absolutely amazing. Their cocktails were also very delicious. It was pretty crowded in there by the time we left, so make sure to make a reservation online here.
Le Jardin
When you walk into Le Jardin, you walk into an open air courtyard sanctuary. It is so bright and peaceful in there, and the food is divine. We went there for lunch to escape the busy souks and it was the perfect way to re-energize before haggling for rugs. The fresh cheese with cucumber and mint is the most delicious dip. The zucchini and feta fritters with goat cheese are perfect, and the patatas bravas with harissa aioli are better than words can describe.
Cafe des epices and Nomad have the same owners and both have great terraces and similarly fresh, delicious food.
El Fenn
El Fenn is the luxury riad within the Marrakech medina. It is a beautiful and popular riad (booked out way far in advance) with three pools, a spa and a boutique. Their restaurant is on their rooftop terrace, which has tons of straw lanterns, fire pits, and a gorgeous bar. Their cocktail menu is located on one of the pages of their riad magazine, which was a lovely read. Go here for lunch, pre-dinner drinks, or dinner, but definitely make sure you make it over here!
Dar Marjana
We had our last dinner in Marrakech on the top floor terrace of Dar Marjana, surrounded by the peaceful glow of the lanterns with live music in the background. We had been constantly eating tagine and couscous all week, so it was fun to mix it up with modern Moroccan food. The fried goat cheese was divine, the tomato soup was perfect, and the kebabs were amazing. It was the best way to end our trip!
Street Food
If you walk through Jemaa el-Fnaa at night, you’ll be entranced by the smells of the food stalls. You should definitely eat here, but be picky on which stall you choose. Go to a stall where you can see them cooking the meat, so that you know it’s fresh and hasn’t been sitting out all day. We went to stall #15. It was amazing!! We had the lamb tagine and some couscous, and it was cooked perfectly. I highly recommend it!

Where to Drink
Morocco is an Islamic country, and the majority of Moroccans don’t drink. Because of this, not all restaurants serve alcohol, but alcohol is not banned and there are still plenty of places to get a pre-dinner cocktail. Besides El Fenn and Compoir Darna (listed above), keep reading for our other favorite places to grab a drink in Marrakech.
Le Salama
This was my favorite place to grab drinks and watch the sunset. We went two nights in a row! It has great decor, plants hanging from the ceiling, and amazing views of the city. The best part: two for one drinks.
Kosy Bar
We went here one afternoon for a mid day coffee break, but ended up with a few cocktails too. It’s close to the Badi Palace and has views of the city and views of the Atlas Mountains. Their cocktail list is splendid, it’s lively and great for people watching, and its tourist friendly.
Le Marrakchi
This is around the corner from Le Salama and overlooks the Jemaa el-Fnaa. It’s gorgeously decorated with detailed ceilings and tiles everywhere and was perfect for watching the craziness of the square below. We tried some Moroccan wine here!
Cafe Arabe
We went here late one night, and unfortunately didn’t make it in time to try their food. Their dinner looked delicious though. The terrace is cozy and inviting, and the drinks were great. Come here after a day touring around the city for some cocktails while watching the sunset.
Royal Mansour
The Royal Mansour is a luxury hotel in Marrakech. It is a super gorgeous, fabulous, glamorous hotel. The drinks are expensive, but so worth it, and the appetizers were divine. The walls of the main bar are decorated with rose gold leaves, so it might have been my favorite fancy bar I’ve ever been to. The Royal Mansour also has Sunday Brunch and Afternoon Tea, so whether its for one of those or just for a drink, make sure to stop by at least once on your trip. You deserve it.
La Mamounia
Right next door is La Mamounia, yet another five-star luxury hotel. We went into Le Churchill, which has a totally different vibe than the Royal Mansour. This was more masculine and jazzy, but still every bit as fabulous. After Le Churchill, we went over to Le Grand Casino La Mamounia where the boys did their thing while the ladies ended the evening with a nightcap. An amazing night overall!
